Watanabe’s Co., Ltd.

An indigo master and dyer from Kamimachi, Tokushima Prefecture who handles everything from indigo cultivation to dye production and dyeing.
In Tokushima, the home of Awa indigo, they cultivate and harvest Japanese indigo (Polygonum tinctorium) and produce "sukumo," the dye used for indigo dyeing.
For dyeing, they use only natural materials such as sukumo, wood ash lye, shell ash, and wheat bran (outer skin of wheat) to ferment and prepare the indigo, using the ancient Japanese "natural ash fermentation preparation" method.
Under the concept of "Blue in Daily Life," they develop collaborations with apparel, interior textiles, and traditional weaving. Furthermore, they are developing the "Sukumo Indigo Dyeing Kit," which allows you to experience natural ash fermentation at home, which has been considered difficult, and are communicating the knowledge of indigo and the background of craftsmanship to the world through workshops and lectures domestically and internationally.
