“Travel Bags” Woven to Your Own Color on a Shuttle Loom

At Anishing’s factory in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, a Toyota and Suzuki-style loom from about 100 years ago is still in active use. Using yarns you select yourself and fabric woven on a shuttle loom, you can create a bag in a color that’s uniquely yours.

Sold Out

In this workshop, you’ll select five strands from a variety of colorful recycled yarns and weave your own original fabric on a shuttle loom under the guidance of a skilled artisan.

Choose from three different bag styles, and your finished bag will be mailed to you at a later date. The sewing will be done at the “Loom” atelier, also located in Toyohashi City.

In a spacious factory along the Tokaido Shinkansen line, you can take your time working with the yarn and loom while listening to the sound of the shuttle loom. Create a bag that’s uniquely yours and that you’ll grow to love.

<Workshop Features>

  • You can actually operate a Toyota-style shuttle loom, which has been in active use for 100 years, to weave fabric yourself.
  • You can combine up to 5 of your favorite yarns from the colorful recycled yarns provided by Kayazawa Shoten.
  • You can choose from three bag shapes: a garden bag, a newspaper bag, or a set of two tote bags.

Create your very own weft yarn by combining threads according to your intuition

We use recycled yarn from Kayazawa Shoten, which breathes new life into “spinning waste”—the leftover fibers generated during the spinning process at textile mills.

The texture and feel of the fabric will change dramatically depending on the yarns you choose.

Woven on a shuttle loom that has been in continuous operation for 100 years.

Under the guidance of a skilled artisan, you’ll have the opportunity to operate the shuttle loom yourself. The sight of the shuttles moving back and forth with a vigorous clatter as the fabric is woven is truly spectacular.

How will you use it? A bag just for you

・The spacious “Garden Bag” features a striking exterior pocket plus a convenient interior pocket
・The “Set of Two Tote Bags”—perfect for everyday use (Note: Both bags will be made from the same fabric)
・The “Newspaper Bag,” a shoulder bag style that holds plenty of items

We offer three styles so you can choose one that matches your preferred fabric look and how you plan to use it in your daily life. You’ll select both the thread and the bag’s shape.

Sewn at the “Loom” atelier in Toyohashi City, each bag takes about a month and a half to complete. We’ll ship it to you at a later dateL
