Paper cranes 'Orizuru', are sent from across Japan to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
These paper cranes, each folded by hand, are transformed into yarn, woven into fabric, and given new life as products — before returning once again to people's hands.

The Orizuru Fabric Project is led by Kazuhiro Nishimura, founder of ANYTHING and a native of Hiroshima.
Working together with the Mino Washi paper-making region in Gifu Prefecture, we create Orizuru fabric at Anything's factory in Toyohashi, Aichi, using traditional Toyota shuttle looms dating back more than 100 years.

How It Is Made
1. Paper cranes sent to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park are collected for reuse. (*Provided by the Citizens Affairs Bureau of the City of Hiroshima.)

2. In the Mino washi paper-making region of Gifu Prefecture, the paper cranes from Hiroshima are recycled and transformed into yarn. This yarn is then twisted together with the cotton yarn used for our maekake aprons to create Orizuru yarn.

3. At Anything's Toyohashi factory, the Orizuru yarn is woven into fabric on traditional shuttle looms dating back more than 100 years. The finished fabric is then made into products such as maekake aprons, bags, and more.
